Man faces felony charges

Suspect allegedly had marijuana

A Butler man faces felony drug charges after city police allegedly found nearly 7 ounces of suspected marijuana in his car last week.

Charles G. Petredis Jr., 32, is free on $30,000 bail pending a hearing in the case that left a 17-year-old boy injured with a gunshot wound.

Butler police arrested Petredis after officers about 10:20 p.m. Wednesday responded to the 600 block of East Brady Street on reports of a gunshot fired and several males yelling, according to court documents.

When officers arrived, they found Petredis in his car parked in a nearby alley. The windows were down and police saw a rolled-up $100 bill on a tray with white powder in the center console.

There also was a strong odor of marijuana in the vehicle, police said.

Petredis initially told police that a man stopped him asking for help to open a garage door.

Petredis said he was then jumped by three men, one who had a pistol.

He told police that while he was on the ground fighting with them, the gun went off and the shot possibly grazed his head. He suffered a minor injury, police said.

However, the gunshot apparently struck one of the others, a 17-year-old Sarver area boy. The boy, who police did not identify, was treated at Butler Memorial Hospital for a gunshot to his arm and released.

Officers spoke to the youth and a 16-year-old Butler boy who was involved in the altercation with Petredis.

The two teens were not immediately charged, police said.

Police also questioned another 17-year-old boy, who they determined was not involved.

Petredis allowed police to search through his cell phone. Officers found a recent conversation between Petredis and another person who was asking to meet him at the address for a marijuana deal, documents said.

Petredis admitted to the attempted drug deal when confronted, police said.

Police later got a search warrant for his vehicle and found a backpack containing a plastic bag of marijuana, a pistol loaded with 15 rounds and two bags containing 30 white pills — one of which had Vicodin written on it.

The seized marijuana weighed 195 grams, documents said.

Petredis was arrested and placed in the Butler County Prison. He was released Friday after posting bail.

He is charged with possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance and criminal use of a communication facility, both felonies, and possession of a controlled substance, a misdemeanor.

A preliminary hearing for Petredis is Dec. 21.
