Freeport boys nip Knoch in soccer

Bryce Hanby booted in the winning goal as the Freeport boys soccer team edged Knoch, 2-1, Saturday.

Freeport (8-6, 6-4) also received a goal from Rob Reichenbaugh.

Knoch (6-5-2, 5-4-1) got a goal from Kris Matus and goalkeeper Stephen Grumski stopped 16 shots.

Butler 3, Hampton 1 — The Golden Tornado (8-6, 4-6) continued to stay alive for a postseason spot with this section win.

Karns City 5, Armstrong 0 — Spenser Myers scored four goals and Noah Pollock also scored for the Gremlins (12-0).

Girls Soccer

Haley Scherer scored two goals and also added two assists as Karns City won a big non-district game with a 5-2 win over Hickory.

Kalee Smith, Megan McCartney and Abby Wolfe also scored for the Gremlins (13-0).

GolfGrove City's Kyle Shingledecker shot an 86 in the second round of the District 10 Class AA tournament at Meadville Country Club to finish 10th overall with a two-round score of 169.Only the top eight advanced to the PIAA West Region Golf Championships.
