Host and narrator RoboThespian, voiced by actor Simon Pegg, explores guitar playing and other activities that take humans a while to master in the new National Geographic giant-screen film, “ROBOTS.” The film opens Sept. 4 at the Carnegie Science Center.

PITTSBURGH — “ROBOTS,” a new giant-screen film from National Geographic Studios, opens Sept. 4 at the Rangos Omnimax Theater at the Carnegie Science Center.

The film is narrated by RoboThespian, a robot just like “Andy Roid,” who greets visitors at the Science Center's roboworld.

The film explores the millions of robots in existence today and the new generation of robots that can work, play, learn, and even look like humans.

In “ROBOTS,” host and narrator RoboThespian, an android voiced by actor, comedian, and filmmaker Simon Pegg, takes audiences on a tour to meet robots in Europe, Japan and the U.S.

Viewers will meet Robonaut, the first space robot handyman; robot butlers and home helper humanoids; human-looking androids; and search and rescue robots.

The film showcases the latest efforts as well as the challenges driving roboticists. “ROBOTS” provides access to labs where researchers are putting the robots through their paces, striving to replicate human capabilities.

The 40-minute large format film also explores the latest in the field of artificial intelligence and machine learning, humanoid cognition, and human-robot interaction.
