[naviga:h3]Charles, Camilla visit Middle East[/naviga:h3]

ABU DHABI, United Arab Emirates — Britain’s Prince Charles and his wife Camilla arrived Sunday in the United Arab Emirates as part of their tour of the Gulf.

The royal couple toured the Sheik Zayed Grand Mosque in Abu Dhabi. They walked over the mosque’s gleaming white marble floor as Emirati officials accompanied them.

They gazed upon the 99 names of God in Arabic adorning the mosque’s inner wall, and later met with religious leaders.

The oil-rich UAE, a country of seven sheikhdoms that is home to Dubai, was overseen by the British when it was known as the Trucial States. The UAE became a unified, independent nation in 1971.

SYDNEY — Australian police have made an unusual find while searching the bag of a woman who was being arrested: a baby koala.

Police in Brisbane said that when they asked the 50-year-old woman if she had anything to declare Sunday night, she handed over a zipped canvas bag that she said contained a baby koala. The woman, who was arrested on “outstanding matters,” said she found the male koala on Saturday night and had been caring for it since.

The woman was taken to a police station, while the koala — believed to be about 6 months old — was taken to a wildlife hospital in good health, though slightly dehydrated.
