CRANBERRY TWP — A township man is facing charges after allegedly fleeing police in his vehicle.

According to documents filed Tuesday in district court, Randall Wray Bittel, 35, is facing charges of felony fleeing or attempting to elude an officer, a misdemeanor charge of DUI of a combination alcohol and drugs, and summary traffic offenses for the incident, which occurred May 23.

According to the criminal complaint, an officer observed Bittel driving at 1:50 a.m. on Route 19 while not wearing a seat belt and with an open alcoholic beverage container in the vehicle.

While the officer was talking with Bittel, he allegedly fled the scene, with officers following. He traveled onto Route 228, where officers turned on lights and sirens. Bittel allegedly continued driving before losing control of the vehicle and crashing on the entrance ramp to Interstate 79, the complaint states.

Bittel was taken to Allegheny General Hospital in Pittsburgh to be treated for injuries. While there, a blood screen and toxicology report was completed, and allegedly showed Bittel had a combination of drugs and alcohol in his system, the complaint states.

A preliminary hearing in the case has not yet been scheduled.
