Rock Solid, an AAU girls basketball team based in Slippery Rock, won the 17 and 18 age bracket of the Solon (Ohio) Cage Classic last weekend with a team of 16-year-olds.Rock Solid defeated All-Ohio - a team of girls basketball all0stars - 70-61 in the semifinals before defeating a team from Canada in the finals, 57-53.Among Rock Solid's 10-player roster are Amy Achesinski and Julie Ehrman of Butler, Jence Rhoads of Slippery Rock and Julie Molloy of Grove City.The team leaves Thursday for a weekend tournament in Virginia.
John Aubrey and John Benson, representing Aubrey's Dubbs Dred Golf Course, finished tied for first place at the Ashworth Pro-Scratch Amateur Monday at The Club at Nevillewood.Aubrey and Benson, fired a 33-32-65 to tie Ryan Sikora and Arnold Cutrell of Tottteridge Golf Course (33-32-65).Ron Milanovich and Sean Knapp of St. Jude Golf Course finished in a third-place tie with four others with a 35-32-67. Travis Dickson and Sal Genilla of Treesdale Golf and Country Club tied for 12th (37-32-69).In the low pro event, Aubrey was tied for 11th with three others (38-37-75), Milanovich (37-39-76) and Dickson (38-38-76) tied at 15th with four others and Joe Boros of Treesdale (36-41-77) tied in 21st place with eight others.In the low amateur event, Knapp was second with a 36-33-69 and Benson tied for third (36-36-72).
Brittany Hahn, a freshman pitcher of the Slippery Rock University softball team, was named PSAC West Pitcher of the Week.Hahn went 2-1 to improve to 11-2 on the season. In five starts, she recorded a 1.75 ERA, eight strikeouts, two walks in 28 innings. Hahn had a no-hitter against Edinboro, one day after a one-hit shutout against St. Vincent.
