COVID-19 cases increase; hospital reopens testing site

The Butler Health System has seen a slight increase in COVID-19 patients and reported the death of two patients as statewide cases and deaths also rise.

The health system on Monday reported having 24 COVID patients, an increase of three since last week, including three in intensive care at Butler Memorial Hospital, and four patients, an increase of two, including one in intensive care, at Clarion Hospital.

Butler Memorial Hospital reported that two patients died on Aug. 30 following the death of a patient last week.

The health system announced that its COVID-19 testing site at 304 Delwood Road reopened Tuesday because of the rise in cases.

Appointments will no longer be required and walk-ins are welcome. The hours of operation are Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to noon. The site will be closed Sept. 6 in observance of Labor Day.

All COVID-19 tests require an order from a physician. People without a primary care provider should contact the BHS Care Center at 833-602-2273 for assistance.

The state Department of Health reported Tuesday that 1,850 people are hospitalized with COVID-19, including 474 patients in intensive care. There were 3,249 new cases, bringing the state total since the beginning of the pandemic to 1,300,368.

On Monday, 21 new reported deaths raised the state total to 28,235.

In nursing and personal care homes, there have been 74,379 cases among residents and 15,888 cases among employees. Of the deaths in the state, 13,959 have been nursing home residents.

About 30,158 of the total cases have been among health care workers.

The state recovery rate fell one point to 93% Monday.

The department also reported 97,403 people in the county are fully vaccinated and 7,614 are partially vaccinated among the population of 193,763.

Statewide, 5,960,402 people are fully vaccinated and 6,217,628 people are partially vaccinated.
