Jefferson St., will have a blessing of the backpacks during the 10:30 a.m. worship service.Everyone who is going to school this fall is invited to take their backpacks and book bags to worship to receive a blessing and gift.The Weckerly corn roast will be held at 6 p.m. Saturday at the Weckerly Farm.Hot dogs, corn and beverages will be provided. Take a dessert to share and chairs. The rain date is Sept. 1.The sixth annual Community Day of Prayer will be held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sept. 8. St. Luke's LutheranGolden Milestone Ministries will host a social hour Sunday following the 11 a.m. worship to celebrate Jean Heckman’s 90th birthday at St. Luke’s Lutheran Church, 310 W. Main St., Saxonburg.The public is invited to the sanctuary from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday for community quiet time.The altar guild is looking for donations of artificial fruit to decorate the sanctuary for autumn. St. John's LutheranSt. John’s Lutheran Church will have a congregational meeting immediately following the 10:30 a.m. worship service to vote on the proposed change to the Church Constitution as recommended by the church council.The August cause of the month is the Red Cross Local Chapter.The church council still needs volunteers to help plan the 125th anniversary celebration.
St. Mark’s Evangelical LutheranThe fourth annual Olde Fashion Church Picnic of St. Mark’s Evangelical Lutheran Church will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at the Masonic Shelter at Alameda Park.A potluck supper will begin at 4 p.m. and the evening will end with worship and Holy Communion at 6 p.m.There will be no service at the church Saturday.Sunday school and service will be held as usual on Sunday, 201 W. Trinity LutheranWeekend services at Trinity Lutheran Church, 120 Sunset Drive, Center Township, will include a blessings of the backpacks for all students as the new school year begins.There will be an important meeting about confirmation for all students going into 7th or 8th grade this fall immediately following the Sunday service. Parents are also expected to attend, as the expectations for being eligible for the rite of confirmation will be explained.The worship and music committee will meet at 7:30 p.m. Monday.Choir rehearsals will begin at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday. New members are welcome.The McCandless Bell Choir is still seeking new members, with or without experience. Rehearsals will begin in September.
