CRANBERRY TWP — A senior citizen was injured Friday afternoon when she fell in a commercial parking lot.

Police said the woman was walking with assistance equipment in the lot by Jimmy Wan’s off Route 228 around 2 p.m. when she fell on her own.

Police said a witness mistakenly attributed the accident to a car hitting the woman while backing up.

Police questioned the driver of the car and asked the woman what happened. Both denied the woman was struck by the car.

The woman was taken to a hospital via ambulance.

JACKSON TWP — A woman was injured in a one-car crash on Interstate 79 near the Route 68 exit Friday afternoon.

Witnesses saw her northbound car hit a guide rail, roll over multiple times and end up off the road, said Brian Dambaugh, assistant fire chief for the Harmony Fire District.

The accident was reported shortly after noon and emergency responders were on the scene until about 1:30 p.m. Northbound traffic was restricted to one lane while the car was towed.

The driver was taken to Allegheny General Hospital by Harmony EMS.

State police are investigating the accident.

[naviga:h3]DA urges disposal of old medications[/naviga:h3]

Butler County District Attorney Richard Goldinger encourages residents to clean out their medicine cabinets this weekend and dump old medications in collection boxes.

Goldinger stated in a news release that the end of daylight-saving time is a perfect time to dispose of unused or expired prescriptions and over-the-counter medications, which can be potentially lethal.

Collection boxes are at these locations: Adams Township, Butler, Butler Township, Cranberry Township, Jackson Township, Penn Township, Saxonburg, Slippery Rock and the county government center.

The boxes are accessible with no questions asked.
