Cranberry business goes on spree for Toys for Tots

Complete Chiropractic Health employees purchased $10,000 in holiday gifts to donate to Toys for Tots on Friday.

CRANBERRY TWP — Ten thousand dollars sure isn't chump change.

And for Toys for Tots, it could certainly make a difference.

On Friday, a dozen Complete Chiropractic Health employees went on a $10,000 shopping spree at Target, buying toys to donate to children through the charity as part of the Cranberry business' annual giving back to the community.

“It was so much fun,” Beth Sarris, team lead at the company, said. “You never realize how much $10,000 really buys, but when you look at the number of carts and the amount of goodies we were able to get, you're amazed.”

Sarris said she tried to ensure the employees bought gifts for all age ranges, including the 12- to 14-year-old age range.

“Those children usually will get missed, or are commonly missed,” she added.

To help keep the gifts within the price range — and to make a game out of it — Sarris said she tried to make the spree a contest.

“There were five groups of two, and their goal was to come as close to $2,000 as possible, and their reward was a fun prize,” she said. The remaining two employees oversaw the other groups.

When the event had concluded around 4 p.m., Toys for Tots not only accepted the donations, but also brought a truck to make sure their haul could return to a warehouse.

While the chiropractic business has in years past donated $10,000 to the Make-a-Wish Foundation and about the same amount to another nonprofit, this is the first year it has used the funds toward Toys for Tots — and it will still send $10,000 to Make-a-Wish.

“We have been longtime donors with Make-a-Wish, but we have partnered up with other orgs to donate to as well,” she said. “And we felt that this year, with COVID and so many businesses not being open, we felt there was a need to put funds forward to support” Toys for Tots.
