Cabaret performance benefits St. Barnabas
The Jazz Cabaret will begin the new year with a touch of Broadway and a tinge of Valentine’s Day.
The interpretation of these songs will be delivered by vocalist Maura Minteer, who is familiar with stage, television, and night club presentations.
Minteer and her trio will present songs that have entertained audiences for years. Her background in theater adds a dramatic extension to the program.
Her musical director is her husband, Jeff Lashway, and he adds another dimension with his years of being the principal pianist for the Maynard Ferguson big band ensemble.
Tony DePaolis and Danny Glover complete the trio on the bass and drums.
The evening of jazz is presented in a setting reminiscent of long ago jazz clubs.
“This audience is the absolute best. They listen, they appreciate the music, the performance and the atmosphere,” Minteer said. “It is pure joy for us to spend the evening with them.”
She said it was a difficult task narrowing down the selections for the cabaret from the rich repertoire available, but she chose songs “born on Broadway that swing their way to becoming jazz standards.”
The show will begin at 7 p.m. Feb. 13.
The series moved from the main campus of St. Barnabas Health System in Gibsonia last February, where it had been for four years, to Conley’s in Penn Township, which St. Barnabas now owns.
Tickets are $12.50. Appetizers and parking are free. There will be a cash bar. Sponsors are responsible for all the expenses, and proceeds benefit the St. Barnabas free care fund. Reservations are available by calling 412-366-1035.
