Horan swears in Butler Township commissioners
BUTLER TWP — U.S. District Court Judge Marilyn Horan administered the oath of office Monday to three township commissioners who were re-elected in November.
Horan, who was a Butler County Common Pleas judge for 22 years before her appointment as a federal judge for the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Pennsylvania in 2018, administered the oath during the township's annual reorganization meeting to commissioners David Zarnick, Joseph Wiest and James Lokhaiser Jr., who were re-elected last year.
“It's my privilege and pleasure to be here,” Horan said. She commended the officials for serving the community.
She also administered the oath to tax collector Olivia Wiest and officers of the Butler Township Volunteer Fire District.
Township officials said Toby Wehr will serve as chief of the fire district, and Kevin Smith will serve as assistant chief this year.
The commissioners re-elected Zarnick as president of the board of commissioners and Sam Zurzolo as vice president.
In addition, the commissioners reappointed Tom Knights as township manager, Cheryl McNeill as assistant township manager, Theresa Giesler as secretary and Tannor Williams as treasurer.
The commissioners also reappointed the law firm Lutz, Pawk and Black as solicitor and Gateway Engineers as engineer.
