JACKSON TWP — The Seneca Valley School Board approved more than $1.6 million in contracts Monday to complete several building projects over the summer.

This includes mechanical and electrical work at the senior high school, intermediate high school, middle school and two elementary schools.

The following contracts were awarded by the board Monday:

Lugaila Mechanical of Pittsburgh, $912,300 for HVAC construction.

Right Electric of Butler, $273,237 for electrical construction.

Newman Plumbing of Harmony, $104,322 for plumbing construction.

Fred L. Burns Inc of Shippenville, $72,500 for general construction.

All the parking lots in the school district will have LED lighting installed to brighten the spaces and provide an additional layer of security and safety on the grounds, said Bob Cook, director of buildings, grounds and security for the school district.

The senior high school and intermediate high school are each having a mechanical unit that is more than 25 years old replaced, Cook said. The intermediate high school unit is in the locker room.

Seneca Valley Middle School is having the domestic boiler replaced, as the current one is failing, Cook said.

Connoquenessing Valley and Rowan elementary schools are having grease traps replaced in the cafeterias.

Roofing on portions of Evans City Elementary and Middle School and Seneca Valley Middle School will be replaced by C.E. Davis of Ford City for $273,000.

Cook said the Evans City school building has multiple roof leaks that the building and grounds department has been maintaining to the best of their ability, but it has become too great a problem to continue maintenance.

Seneca Valley Middle School also has a section of roof in poor shape that needs to be replaced.
