A Pittsburgh man, currently serving up to 10 years in prison for robbery in Allegheny County, was sentenced to state prison time in Butler County Court Monday, for stealing a woman's wallet and forging her name while making purchases using her credit cards.

Ross A. Boggs II, 36, was sentenced to 1 to 3 years in state prison by Judge William Shaffer.

He was also ordered to pay $1,578 in restitution.

Boggs previously pleaded guilty to felony forgery April 6.

This sentence will run concurrent with the 5- to 10-year sentence Boggs received in Allegheny County after pleading guilty to three felony robbery counts.

Cranberry Township police filed the Butler County charges after an incident May 9 at the Discovery House, a drug addiction treatment center in Cranberry Township.

Police said a woman reported the theft of her wallet after leaving the purse unattended in a room where Boggs was present.

She said when she called the credit card companies to put holds on her cards, they reported significant activity in the hour before her call, which included nine unauthorized charges or attempted charges at businesses between Cranberry Township and Pittsburgh, for a total of $1,278.32. The woman also reported having $200 in cash and $100 in gift cards in the wallet.

Police identified the suspect using a clothing description from the woman, matching it to surveillance video of a man making purchases, who was later identified as Boggs.

Police said in several of the incidents, Boggs forged the woman's signature for the purchases.

Boggs is serving time in state prison in La Belle.
