Moniteau super's contract approved for 3 more years
CHERRY TWP — In a vote of seven to two, the Moniteau School Board Monday night approved Superintendent George Svolos to continue for an additional three years.
Svolos’ current contract runs through October.
In November 2013, Svolos received a 3 percent raise to his current salary of $106,090.
Board members Michael Panza and Roy Peffer voted against the contract renewal. Panza noted he had not received the terms of the contract.
In other business, the board:
Accepted the resignation of Zoe McDowell as athletic director, effective June 9. She will continue with the district as a health and physical education teacher.
Has posted the position for junior-senior high school principal, anticipating the resignation of Maynard Harvey at the end of this school year. Harvey has been the principal since 2007.
Harvey said, “I just think it’s time to move on.”
He did not announce his future plans.
“We will miss him,” said Svolos. “He’s a good administrator.”
Approved an agreement with McAfoose Plumbing and Construction for maintaining and testing the district’s water and wastewater treatment facilities. The board voted to discontinue similar services contracted with Rose Water and Wastewater Treatment and with Jeffrey Campbell. The board anticipates a savings of about $1,300 per month with the change.
Also during the meeting, Sonya Kremer, a district parent, requested more information about school security.
She asked the board whether the district has drills and a plan of action for situations similar to the stabbing attack at Franklin Regional High School last week.
“I would like the board to look into metal detectors or an armed guard immediately,” she said.
Board members had no comment and took no action on her request.
Kremer raised the same issue at the Nov. 11 board meeting.
