3 county teams swing heavy lumber

The Seneca Valley and Butler softball teams each rapped out 14 hits in cruising to easy victories while Slippery Rock needed 16 hits to hold off Sharon on Monday.

Jackie Mangola, Megan McCormick and Ashley Watkins each homered for the Raiders in a 12-0, five-inning triumph over Hampton.

In all, 10 Seneca Valley hitters recorded at least one hit.

Ashley Kuhn pitched a no-hitter for the Raiders, allowing just one baserunner — a walk in the fourth inning — in only her second start. She picked up her first victory last Tuesday against Sto-Rox.

For Butler, Jenna Geibel had two singles, a triple and a stolen base, and Erica Thrower had two singles and four RBI in a 14-4, six-inning romp over nonsection foe Blackhawk.

Stacy Reges went the distance and contributed two singles and two RBI.

The Rockets built a 9-2 lead through four innings before a six-spot by the Tigers in the fifth made it a close contest.

Laia Mortimer had two singles and two doubles, and Morgan Robinson had a double and two singles to pace the squad.

In other games:

• Sarah Young doubled twice and Brandi Dunkle and Samantha Bly each had a pair of singles as Karns City outlasted Keystone, 9-7.
