DUI charges held for court

JACKSON TWP — A Pittsburgh man was allegedly more than two times above the legal alcohol limit when he crashed on Interstate 79 while trying to avoid a deer.

Police said Richard Banaszewski, 31, was driving on I-79 northbound near mile marker 88 on Dec. 8 when he saw a deer in his lane.

Banaszewski swerved to avoid the deer, but lost control of his Nissan and got stuck in the grassy median between the northbound and southbound travel lanes. The Nissan sustained minor damage to its front passenger side wheel and front bumper.

Police noticed a “faint” odor of alcohol on Banaszewski. Reports state a breathalyzer test showed he had a blood-alcohol content of 0.213 percent. The legal limit is 0.08 percent.

Reports state Banaszewski was also driving with expired inspection and emission stickers.

Banaszewski faces two DUI charges along with a few summary charges. He had his charges held for court Tuesday.

He was released on his own recognizance and will be arraigned in county court on May 22.
