Three state and national races will be on the ballot for Butler County voters next week:

Governor

Incumbent Gov. Tom Wolf, a Democrat, is being challenged by Republican Scott Wagner.

Wolf, 69, has served as the 47th governor of Pennsylvania since taking office in 2015 after serving as the secretary of the state Department of Revenue.

Wagner, 63, has represented the 28th District in the state Senate. A native of York County, he co-founded York Waste Disposal, and later Penn Waste.

The two debated just once — a sticking point that itself was debated by the candidates. That debate in Hershey lasted just 45 minutes and was overshadowed by its moderator, Jeopardy! host Alex Trebek.

The race has heated up in recent weeks, with Wagner stating in a Facebook video that he would stomp on Wolf’s face with golf spikes. Wagner’s campaign said the comments were not to be taken literally.

Also seeking the seat are Green Party candidate Paul Glover and Libertarian Ken V. Krawchuk.

Lt. Governor

Democrat John Fetterman will face off against Republican Jeff Bartos.

Bartos, 45, is a political newcomer. The Reading native currently lives in Montgomery County, where he owns a contracting company and runs real estate interests. He previously spent time as an attorney and clerking for a federal judge.

Fetterman, 49, is originally from York and has served as the mayor of Braddock since 2005. He has won re-election three times. He ran for U.S. Senate in 2016 but was defeated in the Democratic primary.

Green Party candidate Jocolyn Bowser-Bostick and Libertarian Kathleen S. Smith are also seeking the seat.

U.S. Senator

Democratic incumbent Sen. Bob Casey will face off with Republican Congressman Lou Barletta.

Casey, 58, defeated Republican incumbent Rick Santorum for the seat in 2006 and won re-election in 2012. He previously served as state Auditor General from 1997 to 2005 and Treasurer from 2005 until 2007. He ran for governor in 2002 but lost to eventual winner Ed Rendell.

Barletta, 62, is a Hazleton native, where he served as mayor from 1999 to 2010. He has served as the U.S. Representative for the 11th Congressional District since 2011, serving on the Homeland Security, Transportation and Infrastructure and Education and the Workforce committees.

Barletta has trailed Casey in fundraising, and the race has drawn little national attention. In September Barletta began airing his first TV attack ad, accusing Casey of being ineffective, lazy and asleep on the job. Casey’s campaign countered that Barletta is lying about the incumbent’s record.

Also seeking the seat are Green Party candidate Neal Gale and Libertarian Dale R. Kerns Jr.
