Butler VA answers call to vaccinate all veterans
With the SAVE LIVES Act being signed into law, the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs can provide coronavirus vaccines to all veterans, and the Butler VA is confident it can answer the call.
The law was signed by President Joe Biden on March 24 and prioritizes vaccination of veterans, their caregivers and spouses.
On Monday, the VA Butler Healthcare announced that it is following the law, but noted that meeting the new demand will be dependent on “readily available COVID-19 vaccine supply.”
To schedule a COVID-19 vaccine appointment, eligible individuals can call 878-271-6753 from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday.
“Since the start of the pandemic, VA Butler Healthcare has been focused on vaccinating as many veterans as possible, and we are excited to multiply our efforts thanks to the SAVE LIVES Act,” said Kevin Amick, system director. “We updated our vaccination process to accommodate those identified in the act and are confident we will be able to vaccinate all who wish to receive a vaccine.”
Aside from veterans throughout the state, 3,622,031 residents are partially vaccinations and 2,010,955 are fully vaccinated, according to state data.
Starting Monday, Pennsylvanians in Phase 1B are eligible to schedule a COVID-19 vaccination. That includes U.S. Postal workers, clergy and workers in manufacturing, public transit and education.
In Butler County, there are 18,590 people partially vaccinated and 44,795 fully vaccinated.
No new deaths as a result of the virus were reported in the county Monday.
In the county, there have been a total of 9,882 confirmed cases, 5,631 probable cases and 49,255 negative tests, according to the state Department of Health.
