Knoch duos move on
Knoch will be sending both of its girls tennis doubles teams to the WPIAL Class 2A tournament after facing each other in the Section 3 title match Wednesday at Riverview Park in Oakmont.
The duo of Emily Greb and Lindsey Greb defeated teammates Ava Santora and Jade Nether by scores of 6-0, 6-0.
“The score doesn't indicate how close the match was,” said Knoch coach Nance Conlon. “It was deuce so many times.”
The Knights' duos both received a first-round bye and won two matches before meeting each other in the final.
The WPIAL tourney begins next Wednesday.

McKenna Martin scored six goals and added an assist for the Gremlins in an 11-1 win over Clarion. Butler won a pair of games in the Steven Bryan Memorial Tournament this week at the Belmont Ice Conmplex.Brody Simko had three goals and two assists in a 6-5 victory over Chartiers Valley. Jack Johnson added two goals and an assist and Colton Gregory scored a goal. Andrew Hardsock was the winning goaltender, stopping 16 shots.The Golden Tornado defeated Indiana, 4-2, as netminder EJ Delaney stopped 29 shots. Brayden Povlick, Simko, Parker Worsley and Trevor Ackelson scored for Butler.
Virginia Recchia had 32 assists to lead Slippery Rock to a 3-0 win over Wilmington. Scores were 25-22, 25-21, 27-25.Reagan Duffy had nine kills, Raven Melder-Cross and Kiarra Baxter eight kills each. Ava Lee Demidovich had 22 digs.Moniteau 3, North Clarion 0 — The Warriors won a very tight match by scores of 26-24, 27-25 and 27-25.No other details were provided.
Seneca Valley claimed a share of the Section 3-3A title with a 195-199 victory over Butler at Cranberry Highlands.The Raiders were led by a 35 from Nolan Nicklas and a 37 from Nolan Kummer,Hunter Swidzinski carded a 37 for Butler (8-4, 11-4).SV and Mars both finished with 9-3 section records.
