East Butler man sentenced again for more DUI charges

Dean Minto

Four DUI's in quick succession has equated to a prison sentence and thousands of dollars in fines for an East Butler man.

Dean A. Minto appeared today before Butler County Judge William Shaffer for sentencing.

For his first two DUIs this year — March 2 in Jackson Township and April 3 for drugged driving in Summit Township — Minto was sentenced to serve 90 days to 60 months in prison, followed by 6 months of probation.

However, based on the time he already has spent in prison, Minto was immediately paroled on those cases to begin serving the 1 to 5 year sentence for his second two cases, which were May 8 in Butler Township and May 9 in the city.

Minto and his driving history caused some controversy earlier this year when law enforcement authorities learned he had failed to enter a drug and alcohol rehabilitation facility.

County District Attorney Richard Goldinger had filed a request to have Minto jailed when the defendant said he's instead entered an inpatient rehabilitation facility. But days later officials learned Minto still was on the street and had him arrested on a warrant.

In addition to the prison time, Minto was ordered to pay $7,500 in fines and serve 460 hours on community service.
