Wrigley wins junior golf title
HERSHEY — Recent North Allegheny graduate and Butler Country Club member Caroline Wrigley shot a 73 in the second round of the 2019 Junior Boys and Girls Championships Tuesday afternoon to win the event by a stoke at Hershey Country Club (East).
Wrigley fired a 71 in the first round Monday to finish with a 2-over 144 for the tournament.
Wrigley, who won the PIAA 3A Girls Golf Championship in the fall, edged Michelle Cox of Lehigh Country Club.
Cox led after the first round, but shot a 76 Tuesday.
Wrigley, a Wexford native, will play at Furman University this coming fall.
Butler’s Paige Scott finished 24th.
The Golden Tornado sophomore and Butler Country Club member bounced back from a 90 on Monday to shoot a 78 today.
Wrigley struggled early in the second round with bogeys on holes No. 4, 6 and 8, but recovered to shoot even-par the rest of the way to secure the victory.
John Updike of Aronimink Country Club won the boys title with a 1-under 141 in the tournament.
