Accused child molester held in prison
A Butler man is accused of sexually assaulting a girl over a nearly four-year period beginning when she was 10 years old.
Garrett A. Luttrell, 34, was arraigned Tuesday on 470 criminal counts in the investigation.
Citing the seriousness of the charges, District Judge William Fullerton set bail at $100,000. Luttrell was placed in Butler County Prison following arraignment.
The Butler County Children and Youth Services agency April 13 notified police of the victim's allegations, authorities said. The child identified Luttrell as having sexually abused her.
The numerous suspected assaults occurred between June 2014 and April 2018 in Butler, according to court documents.
The girl detailed the alleged abuse to a forensic interview specialist with the Butler County Alliance for Children while police detectives watched from a different room.
She recounted that Luttrell warned her not tell anyone, saying he would go to jail and that “he would kill himself,” documents said.
Luttrell is charged with statutory sexual assault, 156 counts each of involuntary deviate sexual intercourse and aggravated indecent assault, and corruption of minors, all felonies.
Additionally, he is charged with 156 misdemeanor counts of indecent assault.
Luttrell turned himself in to police on an arrest warrant they obtained Monday. He was accompanied by his wife and mother at Fullerton's office.
At his arraignment, he told the judge that he does not work and has not been employed for 11 to 12 years. His wife is employed.
Luttrell said he suffers from heart disease, narcolepsy and depression.
Fullerton, in setting bail, recognized the defendant's connection to the community and noted that he came in on his own to be arraigned.
But, he also told Luttrell, “I cannot overlook the nature of the charges and what's involved there.”
When Fullerton announced the bail, the defendant claimed he “wouldn't be able to survive without my medication.”
The judge advised Luttrell that prison officials would make sure he had his required medication. Fullerton also declared that the bail was “appropriate.”
Luttrell's preliminary hearing is set May 14.
