Laurabelle Eakin

Laurabelle Eakin, 88, of Pittsburgh died Friday.

She was born in New Castle Nov. 9, 1916, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. H.V. Eakin.

Ms. Eakin graduated from Butler High School in 1934, Grove City College in 1938 and Case Western Reserve School of Library Science in 1948.

She worked as school librarian in Verona and East Deer Township. She was also employed as the medical librarian at the VA Hospital in Aspinwall and Oakland. She was the medical librarian at the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine until her retirement in 1980.

Ms. Eakin was a member of the Shadyside Presbyterian Church and the Pittsburgh Bibliophiles.

She was preceded in death by a sister, Mrs. Henrietta E. McClure; and a cousin, Mrs. Margaret B. Sherman.

<B>EAKIN</B> — Friends of Laurabelle Eakin, who died, Friday Sept. 23, 2005, will be received from 12 to 4 p.m. Sunday at the JOHN A. FREYVOGEL SONS, INC. 4900 Centre Ave. at Devonshire Street. The funeral will be held at 10 a.m. Monday in the Chapel of Shadyside Presbyterian Church. Memorial donations may be made to the Laurabelle Eakin Scholarship Fund at the Pittsburgh Regional Chapter Medical Library Association, c/o David Brennan, Barbour Library, Pittsburgh Theological Seminary 616 N. Highland Ave. Pittsburgh, PA 15206.
