ADAMS TWP — A township man is accused of assaulting and choking a woman during a reported domestic dispute Sunday night at a home on Cherry Blossom Drive.

Adams Township police arrested 32-year-old Adam D. Brown on felony strangulation and other charges.

The alleged victim told police that Brown threw her on a couch and placed both of his hands around her throat and strangled her, according to court documents. He also is accused of hitting the 42-year-old woman.

She eventually managed to get upstairs with her son, and they locked themselves in the master bedroom. But Brown “busted through the bedroom door, breaking the lock to the door,” documents said.

While in the room, Brown allegedly threw the bed from the frame. The victim's son called 911 before he and his mother locked themselves in a child's room until police arrived.

According to Brown's account, the argument with the victim “was not physical” and no property was broken.

But police said the woman had minor injuries and the master bedroom door was broken.

Brown was arraigned on a felony charge of strangulation. He also is charged with simple assault, disorderly conduct and harassment. He is free on $7,500 bail.

His preliminary hearing is set March 27 at the office of District Judge Wayne Seibel in Evans City.
