Parks budget vote reset
The Butler Parks, Recreation, Grounds and Facilities Authority will reconsider a 2020 budget at its February meeting after the board voted against adopting it this week.
The vote failed after board members had questions after changes were proposed to balance the budget, said Cheri Readie, board chairwoman.
Another problem was that one board member didn't have an opportunity to review the budget before the meeting and a new board member abstained from the vote, she said.
The budget will come up for another vote at the authority's meeting Feb. 24.
In the meantime, the authority is preparing for a busy season at Michelle Krill Field at Historic Pullman Park.
The schedule for the 18 home games of the Butler BlueSox, a team in the Tri-State Collegiate League, is being developed, and special plans are being made for the first game.
“We'll have a big event for the first BlueSox game,” Readie said.
She said sponsorships are available for the team, for signs on the outfield fence and other places in the stadium and for a fireworks night.
The stadium will host about 400 baseball games involving the BlueSox and high school and college teams this year, she said.
Businesses, schools and organizations can reserve seats to have their own nights at the park, such as the First Responders Appreciation Night sponsored by WoodmenLife over the last few years.
Readie said the authority also is working on booking concerts.
