A 35-year-old Callery man was flown by medical helicopter to a nearby hospital for treatment after an accident at 9:15 p.m. Sunday night on Mars Evans City Road.

ADAMS TWP — A 35-year-old man, who was trapped in his car after it veered off Mars Evans City Road, was flown by medical helicopter Sunday night to a nearby hospital for treatment.

The driver, a Callery resident, was traveling north about 9:15 p.m. in the 1300 block of Mars Evans City Road when he appeared to lose control, Adams Township police said.

The car hit a guard rail, which spun it off the road, according to police. The vehicle then went airborne and struck a big tree on the driver's side with such force that the car ended up facing south, police said.

“We had heavy entrapment,” said Chief Sean Sokolowski of the Adams Area Fire District.

The vehicle sustained extreme front end damage after hitting the tree. Sokolowski said the impact pushed the driver's door and the driver into the console.

Sokolowski said firefighters had to use a lot of equipment to remove the driver, who was conscious as they worked.

Adams Township police are investigating the crash.

Callery, Cranberry and Evans City fire departments also assisted.

Mars Evans City Road at Myoma Road was closed for about 90 minutes after the crash.
