Butler postal workers mark 9 months without any job injuries

Employees at the U.S. post office in Butler have reached an “absolutely unheard-of,” milestone, postal administrators said this morning: nine full months without an accident or injury on the job.

Representatives from across the postal district and from neighboring districts were on hand today to celebrate the achievement with a brief ceremony at the post office on Main Street.

The office employs 75 people, said Postmaster Irene Eldridge, and fields 44 postal vehicles on a daily basis. The office delivers mail throughout Butler County and to Kittanning on Sundays, and encompasses 32 city mail routes and 15 to 16 rural routes.

Joe Scherder, the post office operations manager, said an office that size going nine months without an accident was highly unusual.
