Pickup hits parked vehicles, shears pole
A hit-and-run driver left a path of destruction on Zeigler Avenue in Butler Tuesday evening.
A red or maroon Dodge Ram pickup with a cap on the bed hit at least two parked vehicles and sheared off a utility pole around 7:45 p.m., leaving several homes without power, and then it fled the scene, Butler police said.
Traffic on Zeigler Avenue was cut off while police investigated.
The truck hit and sheared a pole near the Center Avenue intersection before hitting a minivan and possibly another pickup before hitting Jarrod and Jessica Shantz's car that was parked in front of their home at 115 Zeigler Ave.
They were home when they heard the crashes.
“You could hear screeching tires and lots of smashing,” Jessica Shantz said.Jarrod Shantz said he got outside in time to see the Ram truck after it pushed the minivan into the intersection of Zeigler and Short Street.“It started peeling tire and headed down toward Herman,” he said, adding that their home was among those without power.City police also said the truck, which probably had significant front-end damage, continued down Zeigler Avenue toward Herman after the series of collisions.Police ask anyone with information about the truck to call the station at 724-287-7743.The Butler Fire Department also responded. West Penn Power personnel were also at the scene preparing to restore electric service.
