Seneca Valley senior raises money to give back to Make-A-Wish
NEW BEAVER TWP, Lawrence County — Tyler Poole knew the organization he wanted to raise money for as part of his senior class project at Seneca Valley High School.
It's an organization that helped him and his family deal with the heart condition he was born with.
When he and his aunt Joann Rader brainstormed about ways to raise the money, it didn't take long for them to decide to use the family's favorite hobby — dirt bike riding.
“The first thing I wanted was to do something for Make-A-Wish,” 17-year-old Tyler said.
Before noon Saturday, Tyler was well on his way to raising $4,400 by holding the “Tyler's Ride for Wishes” dirt bike riding fundraiser at Mines and Meadows, the family's favorite dirt bike and all-terrain vehicle off-road riding venue, in Lawrence County.
Raising at least $4,400 earns Tyler the right to become a Make-A-Wish Wishmaker, who can raise money for a child through an online crowdfunding platform.
Tyler was born with coarctation, or narrowing, of the aorta, a large vessel that delivers blood from the heart to the body.
His granted wish was a trip for him, his mother, his father Jim and his older sister Heather to Pearl Harbor, Hawaii, in 2014.
