Boy flown to hospital after nearly drowning
A 4-year-old boy is in a Pittsburgh hospital after nearly drowning Monday evening in the Connoquenessing Creek in Butler, authorities said.
Butler police, who did not release the boy's name, said the child was apparently playing in the water with his siblings in a swimming hole near Kaufman Drive around 7:20 p.m. when he got swept under by the current.
Officers along with the city fire department and Butler Ambulance Service responded. The boy was out of the water but unresponsive when emergency crews arrived. An unknown adult was performing cardiopulmonary resuscitation.
Firefighters carried the child up the hillside to the ambulance, Lt. Donald Crawford of the Butler fire department said Tuesday. An ambulance crew resumed CPR and the boy regained a pulse.
He was taken to Butler Memorial Hospital and later flown by medical helicopter to UPMC Children's Hospital.
Police noted that as of Tuesday afternoon they had received no updates about the child's condition. The incident remains under investigation.
