Running hot on a chilly day
The atmosphere was cold. Butler’s athletes were red-hot.
The Golden Tornado boys indoor track and field team produced five first-place finishes — including a record-setting run by the 4x200 meter relay unit — Saturday at a TCTCA meet at the Edinboro University.

Butler’s 4x200 relay team of Presley Ornelas, Brayden Young, Lucas Slear and Guinness Brown broke the facility high school record at Edinboro, running the event in 1 minute, 31.12 seconds. That is also the top time in the state so far this season.
Brown won the 400 meters in 49.63 seconds and owns the top time in the state in the 200 and 400. Butler’s distance medley relay of Sage Vavro, Brown, Slear and Drew Griffith won in 10:55.95. The 4x400 meter relay of Carson Knight, Aaron Stebick, Luke Campbell and Young won in 4:42.95. Tyler Rekich won the long jump with a leap of 20 feet, 10.25 inches.
