County resident gets jail time on child pornography charge

PITTSBURGH — A Butler County man has been sentenced in federal court to 48 months in jail and ordered to pay $2,500 in restitution to two victims after pleading guilty to a felony charge of possessing child pornography.

Early Forsythe, 53, of Valencia, pleaded guilty on Tuesday to a single count of possession of material depicting the sexual exploitation of a minor. U.S. District Judge Terrence F. McVerry also ordered Forsythe to spent 15 years on supervised release after completing his prison term.

The sentence comes after authorities working with an undercover Pennsylvania State Police investigation served a search warrant at Forsythe’s home on Sept. 6, 2013, and found that he had been trading images of child pornography over an online chat network. Prosecutors say Forsythe had “hundreds of videos and photographs,” depicting the sexual exploitation of minors.

In June of 2015 a grand jury in Pittsburgh indicted Forsythe on charges of receipt of material depicting the sexual exploitation of a minor and possession of material depicting the sexual exploitation of a minor.

According to the indictment Forsythe downloaded videos on Sept. 5, 2013 depicting a minor from Riga, Latvia, engaged in sex acts. The next day Forsythe also downloaded pictures depicting children under the age of 12 engaged in “sexually explicit conduct,” according to court documents.
