Pair hurt in crash named
State police identified a motorcyclist and his passenger who were flown to a Pittsburgh hospital from the scene of a crash Tuesday afternoon on Route 8 in Center Township.
According to the crash report, Jason D. Shook, 38, was driving a 2000 Honda Shadow with 39-year-old Lacy Shook riding as a passenger. Both are from Slippery Rock. It was unclear whether either of them were wearing helmets.
The two were transported by medical helicopter to UPMC Presbyterian Hospital with suspected serious injuries. UPMC does not provide updates to patient statuses for the public due to patient confidentiality.
Police issued a traffic violation to the driver of the 1998 Chevrolet S-10 pickup truck involved in the crash. Neither the driver of the truck nor the passenger, an 8-year-old girl from New Castle, were identified in the report.
According to the report, Jason Shook was southbound on Route 8 around 4:30 p.m. The truck was traveling in the northbound lane and attempted a left-hand turn onto Unionville Road.
The motorcycle slammed into the passenger side of the truck. The report said the driver of the truck “failed to yield the right of way” to the pair on the motorcycle.
Both the driver and the girl in the truck were evaluated at the scene for suspected minor injuries. The girl was wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash.
