Two injured in Butler Township accident

The driver and passenger of an SUV were injured Tuesday in a two-vehicle accident on North Main Street in front of the University Korner gas station in Butler Township.

A pickup truck and the SUV were involved in a nearly head-on accident just before 5 p.m.

Township Fire Chief Chris Switala said the male driver and female passenger of the SUV were injured and taken to an area hospital by Butler Ambulance Service. The severity of the injuries was not known.

Firefighters from the township and Butler City responded and cut the passenger side front door from the SUV to free the passenger, Switala said.

The male driver of the pickup truck was alone in the vehicle and was not injured, he said.

Township police also responded to the accident.

Traffic was restricted to one lane in each direction, causing traffic on North Main Street to back up into the city.
