5:42 p.m. Tuesday — A car driven by David J. Bier, 58, of Butler struck the back of a car driven by James R. Brandon, 42, of Butler at the intersection of South Main and West Wayne streets.Police said Bier did not realize Brandon's vehicle had slowed down for a red light. Bier's car was towed.No charges were filed.
3:25 p.m. Friday — A vehicle driven by George S. Doctor, 68, of Butler was hit by furniture that fell out of a trailer driving along Route 422 in Summit Township.Police said Doctor was following the trailer eastbound when the pieces fell out.The vehicle hauling the trailer did not stop.4:50 a.m. Thursday — Someone siphoned diesel fuel from a parked triaxle truck in a vacant lot adjacent to the Pacific Pride station along Route 422 in Summit Township sometime between Wednesday night and early Thursday morning.Police said the suspects stole about a quarter tank of fuel from the rig owned by McClymonds Trucking of Portersville.Anyone with information is asked to contact police at 724-284-8100.10:52 a.m. Jan. 11 — No one was seriously injured when two vehicles collided head-on along Route 356, just west of Dreher Farm Lane in Summit Township.Police said a car driven by Bradley L. Phlugh, 44, of Butler was driving southbound when his vehicle crossed the center line and struck an oncoming pickup truck driven by Melvin R. Long, 72, of Spring Church, Pa.The collision forced Long's pickup to crash into two utility poles.Long suffered minor injuries but was not taken to a hospital.Phlugh was cited with a traffic violation.Jan. 1 — Kristen A. Leonberg, unknown age, of Prospect reported someone stole a laptop from her home in the 100-block of Monroe Street.3:45 p.m. Dec. 28 — Nicholas A. Massella, 42, of Butler was arrested for suspicion of driving under the influence on Route 422 west near Carbon Center Road in Center Township.State Police, New Castle3 p.m. Monday — Ben D. Talbert Jr., 46, of New Castle lost control of his car and struck a guardrail on Route 422 just west of Old Butler Road in Slippery Rock Township, Lawrence County. He was cited for driving too fast for conditions.
