New Victory Road tenant coming
A cavernous new warehouse and distribution center has been approved for the Victory Road Industrial Park, but the company that will occupy the new space remains a mystery.
Clinton Township supervisors at their September meeting approved a plan presented by the developer SunCap Property Group of Pittsburgh for a 220,000-square-foot building to be used as a warehouse and distribution center.
When asked the identity of SunCap's client, Kathy Allen, board of supervisors chairwoman, referred the matter to Joe Saeler, director of the Community Development Corporation of Butler County.
Saeler said because of a nondisclosure agreement, he is unable to divulge the tenant that plans to occupy the new building.
Saeler could only say that information on the tenant likely will be released within the next three weeks, but a regional publication using unnamed sources has identified Bayer Corp. as the company planning to inhabit the warehouse and distribution center.
Bayer already has a radiation oncology processing facility in the Victory Road Industrial Park.
The 1,300 employees at that facility were not affected when Bayer announced in January 2019 that its facility in Robinson Township, Allegheny County, would be closed.
Bayer announced in November 2018 that 12,000 workers would be laid off globally by 2021.
Saeler said work on the new building at the Victory Road Industrial Park is slated to begin in the spring.
He said while the nondisclosure agreement with the tenant prevents him from naming it, he may be able to disclose the tenant, the estimated number of employees to be hired at the new facility, and other details soon.
Bayer Corp. media officials were not available for comment on Thursday.
