Police nab fugitive at girlfriend's home after receiving tip
Butler police Monday afternoon arrested a fugitive wanted in connection with a weekend state police chase.
City officers found Clecy E. Thompson, 26, of Butler hiding at his girlfriend’s apartment in the 600 block of Center Avenue. He was later taken to the Butler County Prison.
State police had been looking for Thompson since just after midnight Sunday when he ran away from troopers during an attempted traffic stop at Wallula and West Boyd avenues in Butler.
Police apparently were trying to stop Thompson who already was wanted on a bench warrant for failing to appear at a court in connection with a 2015 simple assault case
However, the defendant bailed out of his Jeep and took off running. Troopers and city officers looked for but could not him.
A telephone call from the mother of Thompson’s girlfriend shortly before 3 p.m. Monday eventually led to his capture, said Butler Deputy Police Chief David Adam.
The mother told authorities after learning the suspect was at her daughter’s house on Center Avenue.
Adam said officers found Thompson hiding in the home and he was arrested. He is in the county prison on the bench warrant.
State police said they also plan to charge him with fleeing or attempting to elude police, resisting arrest, flight to avoid apprehension and several traffic violations in connection with the Sunday incident.
