Mars' Pierre gets 4th place in 200 freestyle

LEWISBURG — Mars senior swimmer Andrew Pierre finished fourth in the 200-yard freestyle final with a time of 1 minute, 42.58 seconds at the PIAA Class AA Swimming and Diving Championships Wednesday at Bucknell University.

“It was a big deal for him (Pierre) to come back out here and pull a fourth place, which I think is his best finish at states ever,” Mars coach Todd Slobodnyak said. “He felt good this morning after his prelim swim and he felt good after tonight which is a good sign for him.”

Pierre was fifth in the preliminary race.

Fellow Planets' swimmer Aiden Wolf placed 32nd in the 200 freestyle with a time of 1:52.43.

Knoch had an action-filled evening with athletes in four events. The boys finished 15th in the 200 medley relay prelims with a time of 1:41.99 behind Zach Wilson, Matt Cummings, Michael Phillips, and Bradon Zukowski.

For the Knoch girls, Kristen Jerich finished 13th in the 1-meter diving prelims, while improving to 12th in the semifinals, and 10th in the finals.
