Raider matmen alive in PIAA

Dylan Chappell, Alejandro Herrera-Rondon and Chanz Shearer earned Seneca Valley's three wins in a 50-10 loss to Nazareth in the quarterfinals of the PIAA Class 3A team wrestling tournament Friday afternoon in Hershey.

Chappell and Shearer both earned decisions at 120 and 138 pounds, respectively, while Herrera-Rondon scored a major decision at 132 pounds.

The Raiders rebounded with a 37-28 victory over Central Dauphin in a consolation match Friday evening.

Antonio Amelio (145), Liam Volk-Klos (170) and Chappell won by fall. Hunter Swedish earned a technical fall at 113 pounds.

The Raiders will wrestle Spring Ford at 9 a.m. Saturday. The winner of that match will take on the Canon-McMillan/Cathedral Prep survivor match to determine third place in the state.

Boys Basketball

Summit Academy trailed Winchester Thurston 49-35 after three quarters, but the Knights reeled off a 25-7 run in the fourth quarter to prevail, 60-56, in the Section 1-2A finale for both teams.

Raemil Morris scored 12 of his team-high 16 points in the final period.

The host Knights (7-12, 5-9) also received 14 points from Justin Rowley and 13 from Lamar Fitzgerald.

Winchester Thurston made 11 treys in defeat.

Nate Legin made 22 saves as Freeport defeated Wheeling Park, 6-4, on Thursday.

Nico DiSanti scored a pair of goals for the Yellowjackets (5-11) while Marcus Trask, Jack Mason and Addison Stewart had two assists each.
