JACKSON TWP — Whether on offense or defense, Seneca Valley was out of sorts — not exactly a winning formula when facing North Allegheny.

The Tigers scored on their first six drives and did not allow the Raiders across midfield until late in the third quarter in posting a 40-7 victory at NexTier Stadium Friday night.

The win keeps the Tigers (6-0, 5-0) undefeated.

“We had great field position the entire first half,” said NA coach Art Walker Jr. “A lot of credit goes to our defense. They put us there.”

The tilted field Walker referred to began when an intentional grounding penalty backed the Raiders up deep in their own end on the first drive of the game. A punt set the Tigers up at SV's 46. Eight plays later, Percise Colon scored on an 11-yard run and NA was off and running.

By the end of the first quarter, quarterback Ben Petschle scored on a 45-yard run and threw a 53-yard scoring pass to Luke Colella.

Meanwhile, the Raiders had just 41 yards of offense and two first downs by halftime and were facing a 31-0 deficit.

“It felt like we spent the entire first half inside our own 20,” said SV coach Ron Butschle. “When we did move the ball, penalties brought us back. You can't play like that against a team like NA.”

SV's first play in Tigers' territory came late in the third quarter following NA's first punt of the game. The Raiders immediately went to the air, with Gabe Lawson hooking up with Seth Baic for a 45-yard scoring pass.

The touchdown was the lone bright spot for the Raiders (2-4, 2-3).

“I had no problem with our preparation this week,” said Butschle. “But at some point, Xs and Os go out the window. We just made too many mistakes.

“We shot ourselves in the foot tonight, but NA did a lot of shooting, too,” said Butschle. “That's a good, well-coached football team.”

Petschke ended the game with 71 yards rushing, 147 passing and three total touchdowns.

“Ben does a great job of managing the game for us,” said Walker. “We ask him to hand the ball off a lot, but he can throw when we need him to throw. I'm really proud of the way he's handled things.”

The Raiders travel to Hempfield next Friday for another Quad County Conference meeting.

“Our goal is to make the playoffs and that opportunity is still out there for us,” said Butschle. “We have a tough game next week.”
