BUTLER TWP — Another day, another spate of vehicle break-ins.

Butler Township police said at least five unlocked vehicles were entered overnight Monday into Tuesday, in the latest string of vehicle ransackings.

A .40-caliber pistol was reportedly stolen from one of the cars that was parked at a home on Avon Drive.

Loose change also was taken from the same car as well as four other vehicles — two on Linsdale Drive and one each on Elizabeth and Oakdale drives.

Additionally, lottery tickets were stolen from one of the vehicles on Linsdale Drive.

Two other vehicles — one on Linsdale and one on Whitestown Road — were also possibly entered but nothing was taken.

Police said the thefts happened between around midnight Monday and 6 a.m. Tuesday. The vehicles, Lt. Matthew Pearson said, were within “walking distance” of each another.

He said he believes the crimes are connected and that more than one person was involved. There are no suspects.

Police are already investigating a series of previous vehicle break-ins that have plagued the township in recent weeks. Currency, change, wallets and purses were among the items taken from those vehicles.

Pearson said it appears two separate theft crews could be involved. A common thread in all those thefts: The targeted vehicles were unlocked.

Between Nov. 1 and 2, police said, two vehicles were entered on Crisswell Road in the southern part of the township near the Penn Township line.

Additional vehicles were ransacked on Crisswell Road in Penn Township as well as on nearby Mushrush Road, also in Penn, according to authorities.

Pearson said that at least two vehicles Oct. 20 were reportedly broken into on Acre and Hazlett avenues, and five vehicles Oct. 8 were entered on Mercer Road.

Police, he noted, are reviewing surveillance video from homeowners where the thefts happened in hopes of identifying suspects.

Police, meanwhile, delivered an emphatic message to the public.

“We're urging residents to lock their vehicles,” Pearson said, “and don't leave valuables in your cars.”
