Freeport relay units join WPIAL meet
The Freeport boys and girls track and field teams will send all six relays to the WPIAL Class AA championships next week.
“We were trying to figure out the last time that has happened,” said Freeport boys and girls coach John Gaillot.
Both Yellowjacket track teams will be well represented next week.
On the boys side, Dylan Hochbein finished in the top eight at the WPIAL Class AA northern qualifier at Shady Side Tuesday in both the 110 hurdles and the 300 hurdles. His twin brother, Brandon also will move on in the 300 hurdles and the high jump.
On the girls side, Kayla Zboran advanced in the 1,600-meter run and the 3,200; Rachael Kubeldis qualified in the 800 and 1,600 and Taylor Hochbein in the discus and javelin.
Karns City sweeps A-C Valley, Redbank Valley — Wyatt Everetts won both hurdle events to pace the Gremlin boys while Breann Wood, Emily Schumacher and LeErin Jones dominated for the Karns City girls.

Moniteau sweeps Cranberry and Keystone — Nikki Yeckel broke the school record in the 100 hurdles with a time of 16.13 seconds and Heather Porter tied the school record in the pole vault, clearing 10 feet, 6 inches to help the Warrior girls to a sweep.

Baldwin Invitational — Butler's Travis Reed and Ava Bonetti placed high in the shot put and discus at the Baldwin Invitational last weekend.
Reed threw a season-best 52 feet, seven inches in the shot put and 163 feet in the discus while placing third in both events.
Bonetti placed second in the girls discus with a toss of 118 feet, seven inches. She was fourth in the shot put with a personal-best 40 feet, three inches.
Butler's Steve Shoemaker also medaled at the Baldwin Invite, placing eighth in the javelin.
