East-central Butler County is in a severe thunderstorm warning because of an isolated storm that developed around 4 p.m.

The storm could bring winds up to 60 mph, according to National Weather Service meteorologist Bill Modzelewski. Winds are the primary cause for concern, he said, although rain and hail are also a possibility.

Downed trees and power lines are possible in the storm’s path, Modzelewski said.

As of 4:30 p.m., the warning was scheduled to last only until 4:45 p.m. The storm’s activity might change that.

Even after it, the area will retain a potential for scattered thunderstorms until around 9 p.m.

The current storm is also affecting part of northwest Armstrong County and is moving southeast.

Flash flooding from the storm is possible, but not a major concern because the weather is so isolated, Modzelewski said.

Some power outages are to be expected, according to the NWS’s official warning.
