FBI releases images, offers reward
BOSTON — The FBI on Thursday released new photographs and is offering a reward for information leading to the whereabouts of a man suspected in the murder of a Butler County police chief.
The FBI's Boston office announced a reward of up to $100,000 for anyone who provides information leading to an arrest or recovery of the remains of Donald Eugene Webb.
Webb is wanted in connection with the murder of Saxonburg Police Chief Gregory Adams on Dec. 4, 1980. Police believe Adams was beaten and shot to death by Webb while performing a routine traffic stop.
The white Mercury Cougar Webb was believed to be driving was found later that month in Rhode Island.
An arrest warrant was issued in 1980 and he was listed on the FBI's 10 most wanted list from 1981 to 2007.
Police recently had a break in the case when investigators found a hidden room on the other side of a closet in his wife Lillian's house in Dartmouth, Mass.
Among the newly obtained evidence were several photographs of Webb taken in 1979 while on a cruise.
Based on this new evidence, Adams' family earlier this month decided to file a lawsuit against Webb's surviving family.
Adams' widow Mary Ann (Adams) Jones and her sons, Benjamin, 39, and Gregory Adams Jr., 37, filed a writ seeking damages in excess of $1 million from Webb; his wife, Lillian Webb; and her son, Stanley Webb.
Webb is a white male with brown eyes, according to a news release from the FBI. At the time he fled, he was 5-foot-9, about 165 pounds and had graying brown hair. He may have a small scar on his right cheek and his right forearm. Additionally, he may have the following tattoos: “DON” on the Web of his right hand and “ANN” on his chest.
Webb is a career criminal and master of assumed identities, according to the FBI release. He specialized in the burglary of jewelry stores. He reportedly is allergic to penicillin, a lover of dogs, a flashy dresser and a big tipper.
His known aliases include A.D. Baker, Donald Eugene Perkins, Donald Eugene Pierce, John S. Portas, Stanley John Portas, Bev Webb, Eugene Bevlin Webb, Eugene Donald Webb and Stanley Webb.
Investigators are hoping that members of the public may recognize Webb from the newly released photographs and have information about his whereabouts or activities during the last 36 years.
“We're asking the public to take a close look at these photographs that we recently acquired and contact us if they have any information about Mr. Webb's whereabouts,” said Harold H. Shaw, special agent in charge of the FBI Boston Division, in the news release. “The FBI cannot make the assumption Webb is deceased without verification. We're in the final stages of this investigation, and, given Mr. Webb's age, we're doing everything we can to bring some closure to Chief Adams' family and the citizens of Saxonburg.”
Webb would be 85 years old today, but should still be considered armed and dangerous.
