Falcon Knights get win on road

Eli Penny rushed for 83 yards and Caden Rainey retuned a punt for a touchdown and also caught one as the Union/A-C Valley football team edged South Side, 21-14, Friday night.

Kylar Culberston also had a rushing touchdown for the Falcon Knights (4-1) and finished with 45 yards on the ground.

Tanner Merwin passed for 64 yards and a touchdown to Rainey.

The Falcon Knights bounced back from a disappointing loss at Redbank Valley the previous week.

Union/A-C Valley returns home next Friday to take on Brockway.

Girls Tennis

Butler resident and North Catholic senior Reagan Sommariva teamed with sophomore Riley Pylant to place third in the WPIAL Doubles Tournament. They earned the first WPIAL medal in North Catholic girls tennis history.

Sommariva and Pylant won the first set 6-0 against No. 2 seed Sewickley Acaddemy, dropped the middle set 6-0 and were trailing the third set, 4-1, facing match point. Sommariva and Pylant rallied to win the third set, 7-5, and the match.

Cross Country

Slippery Rock split a meet with Sharon, the boys winning 15-50, the girls losing 21-34. The Rocket boys are 5-3 on the year.

Slippery Rock runs at Sharpsville Tuesday.
