Middlesex meeting unmasks dispute
MIDDLESEX TWP — A short dispute occurred when a township supervisor and a resident faced off over masks before Wednesday night's supervisors meeting.
David McMaster, a township resident who is running for supervisor in the May primary election, called out Supervisor Chairman Michael Spreng for not wearing a mask.
“To come in this building, you got to have a mask on,” McMaster, who wore a mask, said.
“I'm in the building and I'm not putting it on,” Spreng said.
Spreng said because he was sitting 6 feet from those in attendance, he didn't need to wear a mask.
“So, you're refusing?” McMaster asked.
“Absolutely,” Spreng said.
When McMaster suggested Spreng should be escorted from the building if he didn't wear a mask, Spreng offered to leave.
“If you guys don't feel good with me here, I will walk out the door right now,” Spreng said.
The two other supervisors indicated they were comfortable with Spreng not wearing a mask.
No one else in attendance addressed the issue.
The argument concluded when Michael Hnath, township solicitor, told Spreng to start the meeting.
