SAXONBURG — South Butler Community Library, 240 W. Main St., will offer several workshops on aging issues.

11 a.m. May 12, “Declaring Independence in Your Home:” Kristin Laboda, private duty manager, Concordia Visiting Nurses, will discuss aging-in-place, independence and extending quality of life.

11 a.m. May 19, “Stay Well with Nutrition as You Grow Older”: Natalie Kolish, Concordia registered dietitian, will offer information on a diet that contributes to a healthier lifestyle.

11 a.m. May 26, “Boost Your Memory Power with Nutrition”: Ruth Douthett, dietetic technician at Concordia, will talk about the relationship between food and the brain. She will explain how to adopt a brain-healthy diet that may reduce the risk for developing dementia.

SAXONBURG — South Butler Community Library, 240 W. Main St., will offer a workshop “Understand the Potential Impact of Taxes on Your Retirement Income” from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. and from 6 to 7:30 p.m. May 16 at the library.

The workshop will

Provide a basic overview of how relevant tax rules apply;

Identify misconceptions about taxes in retirement; and

Present possible tools and strategies for middle-income retirees to help with taxes in retirement.

[naviga:h3]Heritage fest set in Slippery Rock[/naviga:h3]

SLIPPERY ROCK — Slippery Rock Heritage will have its annual festival from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. May 20 at Slippery Rock Park, 320 N. Main St.

There will be parking and shuttle bus service, vendors and food. There also will be a car cruise May 21 on Main Street.
