Office-duty officer charged in casePITTSBURGH — An off-duty officer from the suburbs has been charged with aggravated assault for shooting a jail guard in Pittsburgh after an argument in a nearby bar.The off-duty Aliquippa officer, Joshua Gonzalez, 24, was charged in the shooting about 3 a.m. Thursday.Police say Gonzalez acknowledged shooting Allegheny County Jail guard Kevin Miller, 29, but has claimed he did that only because Miller appeared to be reaching for a weapon. But police say Miller doesn’t own a gun and told them Gonzalez shot him after Miller confronted Gonzalez about hitting a woman during an earlier disturbance.Miller is recovering in a Pittsburgh hospital.
Convicted woman will be sentencedPITTSBURGH — A woman convicted of third-murder in the death of her 3-year-old daughter, whose body was found in a ravine last year, is set to be sentenced.An Allegheny County jury convicted 37-year-old Adriene Williams in August, and she’s scheduled for sentencing today.Prosecutors contend the Wilkinsburg woman somehow asphyxiated Adrionna Williams — they never said where or how — before leaving the girl’s body in a wooded area of Swissvale in June 2015.
