CLINTON TWP — A Saxonburg woman was injured Thursday morning when a pickup truck struck the bicycle she was riding at Freeport Street and Plantation Drive, authorities said.

The woman, believed to be in her mid- to late-30s, was taken to Butler Memorial Hospital. The extent of her injuries was not known.

State police are investigating but an accident report was not immediately available.

Emergency crews said the pickup driver, who was traveling on Freeport Street shortly after 8 a.m., may have mistakenly thought the woman was signaling for him to pass her when he struck the back of her bike.

The woman’s apparently was signaling to make a turn.

She was knocked off the bicycle, which sustained a bent rear wheel, according to the Saxonburg Volunteer Fire Company.

Saxonburg EMS tended to the woman before a crew took her to the hospital.
